South Carolina

Jake and I took a trip to South Carolina over Thanksgiving and we had the most wonderful time ever! It was so nice to get away a few weeks before finals and i had no idea how bad i was in need of a vacation.

My favorite part of the trip were the two plantations we went to. The first plantation was a flower garden and even though we went most of the flowers werent in bloom it was still really cool. They had a swamp garden where we saw an alligator that we were obsessed with and wished we could have gotten closer to it. I have to admit i was a little scared because there was no one else in the swamp gardens with us and i was afraid we would get attacked by something. haha. we made it out just fine. Next we went to the flower gardens which were really neat, they even had a green house garden with beautiful flowers even in the winter.

The second plantation we went to was called Middleton Place and i absolutely loved it. If Jake and i would have lived back there i would have had my wedding here. We totally lucked out at this garden because we went on Thanksgiving and they had discounted prices (their only day of the year with a discount) This garden has the oldest landscape gardens in America and it use to have a rice plantation as well. I loved all of the history this place had to offer. We saw the old slave houses, water houses, church, rice building, secret gardens, and beautiful lakes. We took a private tour of the families house where we saw all of their personal furniture, jewelry and much more. Below is a picture of part of Middleton Gardens and i will post more pictures when i have my computer.

Jake did an amazing job planning our trip and he found some of the most amazing food places i have ever tried in my life. I was actually craving one of the "local" restaurants today. Some of my favorites included in the Coca Cola cake from Jestines that was to die for and the soup and sandwhiches from the local restaurant that rocked my world so much we went their more then a couple of times.
We spent one day at the beach and ran through the sand with the cold air rushing against us. I added a couple of sea shells to my collections and Jake got to see his light house he had been dying to see the whole trip. If it would have been warmer I'm sure he would have swam out to it.
Then one day we decided we would drive over to the resort we almost stayed at and when the people at the gate told us we couldn't go in because we weren't "residents" we drove around her and into a resort that was more like a whole town where we were followed by some wimpy guy in a truck with yellow flashing lights. haha. when we stopped at a stop sign he hurried out of his truck and ran over to us. Jake politely explained we were looking for our way out of this town and the wimpy man officer followed us out.
A few other fun things we did were walk along the battery and all of the old beautiful houses that had so much character. We also took a tour of some big huge ship named the USS, something that i can't remember, walked through a submarine and visited Mt. Pleasant.
Just when we thought we wanted to stay in South Carolina forever we had to leave. Once we started our trip home we couldn't wait to make it home. Because there was a light dribble of rain all planes got delayed and we ended up stuck int he Atlanta airport for the night. This option was way better then the hotels we could have stayed at, trust me. We then had to take seperate flights to Texas and then from Texas to Utah. We arrived home a whole daylater then planned but we made it and we are grateful for that. All in all we had a blast and can't wait to go back there again some day.
